Many new teachers began their teaching careers as occasional teachers. It is the foot in the door, the opportunity to practice everything you learned in your education program, the chance to prove your ability.
Occasional teaching has many distinct challenges and rewards. The diversity of classroom experiences and the exposure to many schools helps you determine your grade level and site preferences, while at the same time you can learn from the many colleagues you meet. But, in order for those opportunities to be positive ones, an occasional teacher needs to establish a game plan.
